IT-  TECHNOLOGY ENABLED BUSINESS SUPPORT

Information Technology at Brydens is aligned with the core business operations and the network infrastructure is consolidated across all companies and remote locations in Trinidad and Tobago; using currently available communications technology.

Brydens have established a group of network servers to match the dynamics of a prolific, perceptive and proactive group of companies. This is a hybrid network taking the robust IBM AS400 i520 technology combined with the innovative Dell Power Edge blade servers to provide information transparently across both platforms.

While the operational application provides employees with critical tools to perform their respective functions on a daily basis, the management team enjoys the best of business intelligence software to manipulate and interrogate their database information for better decision-making.

Brydens has developed and maintained an IT support team that is motivated and focused on company objectives. The group has invested and continues to invest in hardware and software to meet the demanding needs of their distribution and retail businesses. The investment in human resources has also made the transition a comfortable and smooth one. It was tough getting to this position, but the plan is to maintain the technological drive and benefit from the advantages to be realized thereafter.

The drive to be self-sufficient in IT support began in 2003 and in less than two years, the infrastructure had begun to take visible shape. By 2005, old technology was completely discarded and replaced with current brands and systems. External mail hosting was also discontinued in preference for in-house administration.

In 2006 we began the process of rationalization and restructuring. The warehouse disaster of August 2005 was a pivot which made us stronger as a company and a Group. In preparation for the anticipated growth to follow, IT continued the thrust to deliver practical and robust systems. The focus was on long-term investment and not short-term gains.

In 2007, the development curve continued with the automation of the distribution centre; using state-of-the-art RF technology. The implementation of an integrated Warehouse Management System was much anticipated and welcomed. This venture has enhanced business delivery performance efficiency to the satisfaction of share holders and business partners. Inventory control in real-time with movement visibility could not have been more timely.

In 2008, the focus shifted to downstream sales market with the automation of off-site billing and inventory control. The implementation of Beltek Route Administrator was welcomed by the sales teams, as they enjoyed the reduction of time spent on daily reconciliation from two hours to ten minutes.

In 2009, the progressive chart continues …….

Congratulations to the directors of the Group for having the foresight to be leaders in the embracement and practical application of information technology.
